TiVo and DirecTV extends their partnership

TiVo Inc. and DirecTV Group have said that they are renewing their partnership deal for another three years. This announcement helped TiVo gain in the share market as their stocks were up by around 9%.

Interestingly, Satellite TV broadcaster DirecTV had said last year that they would no longer be marketing products from TiVo. Instead, they were planning to use its own system made by News Corp. owned NDS Group Plc.

However, DirecTV still won’t be marketing TiVo. Customers would however be able to receive TiVo through DirecTV as a part of this deal. TiVo would be providing maintenance and support to their customers.

DirecTV happens to be one of the biggest TiVo customers and the announcement of their extended partnership was welcomed in the market. The deal would also see that TiVo and DirecTV would not be asserting patent rights against each other.
