Fox network to make available TV reruns on the Internet

Wall Street Journal has reported on their website that the News Corp.’s Fox network has signed a six-year agreement with its 187 affiliated stations to enable it to show reruns of its television programs on the Internet.

They are planning on a revenue sharing agreement, which would see Fox making 60 percent of its prime-time schedule available online. These shows would be made available online a day after they are shown on the television.

WSJ added that the stations essentially would get a 12.5 percent cut after costs. News Corp has not released any statement on these market rumors. However, with popular television series like “American Idol” and “The Simpsons” broadcasting on the Fox network, it is pretty luring for them to turn to internet for extra revenues from their programming.

Disney has already announced their plans to show four of their most popular television programs online supported with advertisements.
