Softbank to not use Vodafone brand in Japan
Japanese Internet giants Softbank have said that they are planning to drop the brand name Vodafone for the Japanese market. This decision has been taken after the company acquired their assets and local operations in this country.
Vodafone was struggling with their Japanese venture and sold it to Softbank a couple of weeks ago. Softbank and Vodafone K.K. said in a joint statement: “A new, easy-to-understand, and familiar company name and brand will be announced when preparations are in place.â€
Softbank president Masayoshi Son added that he would be assuming the same job at Vodafone K.K. in a dual role. Vodafone K.K. is currently the Japan’s third largest mobile phone operator and has accepted Softbank director Ken Miyauchi to take on the executive vice president position.
President William Morrow would be heading the company. Softbank is aiming to complete this acquisition later this month and is expected to reveal a new line-up of management at a board meeting something this month.
