Toyota considering opening up a plant in Virginia

Japanese automaker Toyota is now planning to open up a plant in the state of Virginia in USA. The company has now approached Virginia about locating an automobile-assembly plant in the state.

Toyota is interested in a location located near Roanoke as well as some sites in North Carolina. They are also looking at some locations in Tennessee and Arkansas. If the project goes ahead, it would become Toyota’s eight such assembly plant in the country.

The company has not revealed on how soon they want to go ahead with this project but a confirmation is expected soon. Interestingly, the offer from Toyota comes soon after Ford announced their decision to close its truck plant in Norfolk in 2008.

Toyota’s most recent plant was opened in San Antonio with an investment of $750 million and it provides employment to around 4000 workers. Roanoke Valley officials have said that they are unaware of such an initiative from the company but it seems logical considering they already have companies working in the region, which supplies auto parts.
