Honda might manufacture diesel engines in Britain
Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) has said in a report that Japanese automobile giant Honda is considering establishing a unit in Britain where they would be manufacturing diesel engines for their cars. They might even consider manufacturing them inside one of their existing units in the country.
This is expected to help the company meet up with the growing demands in the market for fuel-efficient vehicles. Honda is currently importing these diesel engines from their home market of Japan to its British factory.
This makes the process complicated for them and also expensive in the longer run. The capability of manufacturing diesel engines in Japan would help them ramp up the manufacturing capacity of these diesel Honda cars for sale in the European market.
The report also claimed that Honda as already built assembly lines inside its British plant. This plant is expected to first assemble these engines from parts imported from Britain. In later stages, the diesel engines would be totally developing the parts locally.
Honda also has plans to increase the output at two factories in Japan to help this process of assembling of diesel engines in Britain.
