Google CEO: China Censorship is not our business

Google’s chief executive Eric E Schmidt has said in a statement that they have no plans to protest against the censorship, which the Chinese government has imposed on their citizens and companies working in the region.

Schmidt said in a statement: “I think it’s arrogant for us to walk into a country where we are just beginning operations and tell that country how to run itself.” He was on a visit to the country to promote Google’s new Chinese search engine.

Google has been criticized massively in the media for bowing down to the pressures of the Chinese government and launching a search engine service with results heavily censored. Schmidt also announced the opening of a research and development centre in Beijing during his visit to the country.

He also added that it was impossible for them to enter this big market without accepting the laws of the land. Schmidt added: “We had a choice to enter the country and follow the law. Or we had a choice not to enter the country.”

China is the world’s second largest internet market and holds a huge potential for the American companies to invest in.
