Nokia to expand R&D center based in Chengdu, China
World’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones Nokia has said that they are planning to expand its Research and Development center located in Chengdu, China.
They are planning to hire an additional 150 more staff. This is to help them boost mobile network infrastructure product development.
Nokia had earlier announced their plans to restructure part of its Networks division in its Finnish homeland to cut R&D costs. Instead, the company is planning to expand the spending in the emerging markets where it expects higher demand for infrastructure from the mobile service providers.
They have particularly focused on two emerging economies India and China. China happens to be the world’s biggest market by sales and India is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world.
The company said in a statement: “The expansion of Nokia Chengdu R&D Center will capitalize on the favorable competence base in China, and develop a better alignment with the Chinese mobile communications market, a key global growth driver.â€
