Google continues to gain more market share
Search engine giants Google are continuing with their domination in the online search market as they gained market share for the eighth consecutive month.
A Web metrics firm ComScore Networks reported that only Google and Ask were able to improve upon their market share in the last month. Yahoo!, MSN Search, and AOL Search all saw a decline in their market share.
The month of March saw Google improving their market share in this segment by 6.3 percent to capture 42.7 percent of the 6.4 billion searches conducted online. Yahoo! remains the second most popular search engine though its share went down by 2.6 percent to 28 percent.
MSN Search saw a drop of 3.3 percent to 13.2 percent. AOL’s market share was at 7.6 percent, which is down by 1.4 percent compared to its share in the same period last year. Ask improved its market share by 0.4 percent to 5.9 percent.
Google and Yahoo! dominates the searches made using search toolbars as their market share in this segment was 48.9 percent and 46.5 percent respectively.
