Exide batteries to power Tata Rs. 1 lakh car
Exide Industries has claimed that they would be the provider of battery solution for the upcoming Tata’s Rs. 1 lakh car. In addition, they would also be supplying batteries for the company’s “world truck†projects.
SK Mittal, director, R&D, Exide Industries said in a statement: “We have presented our designs to Tata Motors and have got a favorable response from themâ€. He added that the lead-acid battery for the small car would be small in size and cost competitive.
Mittal said: “The small car battery will be technologically advanced and could be made on a massive scale to get better economies of scale. Similarly, the battery for the global truck is going to be contemporary to world standards.â€
They have tied up with Japanese battery makers Shinobe, a Hitachi company, and Furukawa for technology sharing. This Rs. 1 lakh car project is Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata’s dream project and is expected to be launched in the next 2 years.
