Microsoft stands behind the HD DVD format
Software giants and the maker of the world’s most popular Operating System product Microsoft is continuing with their support of the Toshiba’s HD DVD format. This format is competing with Sony’s Blu-Ray format to become the standard for the next generation of storage devices.
Microsoft of course has the support of Intel, which are the world’s largest maker of microprocessors for personal computers in this initiative.
The company recently announced that they would be coming out with more details about a HD DVD attachment for their recently launched gaming console Xbox 360. This would make the scenario more interesting as Sony is developing their Sony Playstation 3 gaming console with a Blu-Ray drive.
Interestingly, most of the PC manufacturers like Apple, Dell, and Hewlett-Packard have given their support for the Blu-Ray format but it would be interesting to see how things develop once Windows Vista comes out with HD DVD support built in. Microsoft is expected to provide support for the Blu-Ray format as well, but whether it would be built into the operating system is something we have to see.
