TVR closing down its Blackpool factory
Sports car maker TVR has said that they are closing down their factory located in Blackpool. This plant of the company employs 260 people. TVR however clarified that the production facility would be moved elsewhere.
TVR had been acquired by Russian banker’s son, Nikolai Smolensky in 2004 and they are now aiming at moving in a smaller production facility to cut costs.
The company spokesperson said in a statement: “We have been talking about moving production for some time. There is no way this is the end of TVR.â€
TVR’s regular production is already down from around 15 cars a week to between six and 10. This has resulted in them already cutting a few jobs. They are however optimistic and are aiming at increasing its presence in markets in continental Europe and the Far East.
Andy Robertson, the Transport & General Workers’ Union regional organizer said: “The company told us it intended to keep a presence in the UK, but did not say where it would be or if manufacturing was going to be transferred there. This is a further blow for car making in the UK.”
