Rambus wins patent lawsuit against Hynix Semiconductor

Hynix Semiconductor suffered massive drops in its share prices after they lost a crucial patent lawsuit against Rambus Inc.

The courts have instructed them to pay almost $307 million for patent breaches. The court’s ruling was the first jury test of Rambus’s infringement claims and this would help them in similar cases filed against other companies.

Rambus was also a winner in the stock market as its prices went up by 15 percent to $44.50 in NASDAQ Stock Market. Hynix however has the option to reduce the verdict in a later phase of the lawsuit. They can then even seek an appeal in the higher courts.

Hynix has been claiming that the patent lawsuit was not valid as Rambus violated antitrust laws to gain its position in the industry. Rambus on the other hand has been demanding that the sales of Hynix memory products infringing its technology should be blocked for selling in the market.
