Warner Home Video to launch the first hybrid DVD/HD DVD disc

Warner Home Video has said that they would soon become the first movie studio in the United States to offer a hybrid DVD/HD DVD disc for a movie.

They plan to ship hybrid DVD / HD-DVD titles starting next month in the market. It would feature the standard 480p DVD content that will work on any DVD player on one side, and 1080p HD-DVD content on the other side.

This would enable the consumer to enjoy the disc on both the regular DVD player and the recently launched HD DVD players. The first movie to get this hybrid disc would be “Rumor Has It” starring Jennifer Anniston and Kevin Costner.

It would be sold at a retail price of $39.99, which is around 10 dollars extra over a standard DVD edition. However, market analysts believe that the company should have picked up a more successful movie as the first launch for this launch of the hybrid DVD/HD DVD disc.
