Vonage offering VoIP calling facility in Britain
U.S. based Internet-phone company Vonage is offering a service in the UK, which might soon enable mobile owners to make unlimited calls. They have teamed up with The Cloud and are offering customers in UK a mobile service that uses the VoIP technology to make calls using the bandwidth provided by Wi-Fi hotspots.
The company claims that the users would not face cumbersome log-on processes to login to hotspots. Once they are near a support Wi-Fi hotspot, they would be automatically able to make calls using their cell phones.
Once they are outside the range of that hotspot, they would have to move back to the conventional mobile network and pay regular charges. Vonage would be starting this service next month and it would be limited to the UK market for the time being.
Customers opting for this service would have to pay a monthly charge of around USD 14 and would require to use a specially designed mobile handset Vonage WiFi UTStarcom F1000. Users of Vonage VoIP service in the country won’t be required to pay for the service.
Kerry Ritz, Vonage UK managing director said in a statement: “Enabling users to make telephone calls while on the move is the inevitable next stage of the VoIP revolution. For small and medium businesses, where controlling telecommunications costs is important, the service will be a great way of staying in touch while out of the office without relying on costly mobile phones.”
