Amazon A9 switches to Windows Live Search!
This is big news. Amazon has ditched Google for their A9 Search Engine service and is now relying on Windows Live Search engine.
With this Microsoft has managed to snatch away one of the biggest search partners from Google as they reach the final stages of launching its array of Live Services out of beta.
Microsoft is developing this Live Search Engine to replace its MSN Search service with the aim of winning online advertising dollars away from Google and Yahoo!
A9 might not be amongst the most used search engine services on the net but knowing the capabilities of Amazon, this is no small feat for Microsoft.
A9 combines an array of services powered by technologies borrowed by various sources. This includes Web searches, book searches, and Blog searches. A9 also powers search on Amazon.com, which is one of the largest ecommerce services on the net.
A9 Chief Executive David Tennenhouse said in a statement that they stopped relying on Google after the expiration of the contract they had with the search engine market leader. They believe that Windows Live Search presented a “very interesting, powerful Web search option”.
Senior product manager at Microsoft’s MSN Internet unit, Justin Osmer said on this deal with Amazon: “It’s another opportunity to reach a new segment for us and get people acquainted with the Windows Live search brand.â€
Interestingly, experts in the search engine market still believe that Microsoft lacks the searching capabilities compared to Google and it would still take them sometime to get on par with the market leader. However, Microsoft has the kind of influence, which is finally showing its result in the market.
