Nissan Motor India to setup a manufacturing unit in India

Nissan Motor India is the fully owned Indian subsidiary of Japan’s Nissan Motor and they are closing in on their plans to establish a manufacturing base or assembly plant in India.

This unit would help the company establish a presence in the ever-growing automobile market in India. They could also use this plant in India as an export hub for the international markets.

Market analysts believe that the first car from the company for the Indian market could be a sedan powered by a 1.3-liter, three cylinder, petrol engine.

Nissan is the third largest carmaker in Japan and would be the latest challenger to existing players in the market including Honda, Toyota, and Suzuki from their home market.

Neeraj Garg, the company’s head of marketing and sales said in a statement on their plans for the Indian market: “Apart from selling the X-Trail, we have used the last few months in India to understand the market, its topography and consumer preferences. We will soon announce our plans for India.”

Nissan Motor President & CEO Carlos Ghosn added: “In India, we started a new subsidiary last June and we are now studying options for further expansion”.
