Nokia expecting growth from African and Middle East markets
World’s largest maker of mobile phones Nokia is expecting massive growth from the developing markets in the African and Middle Eastern countries. The company believes that as many as 200 million more people in Africa and the Middle East would start using mobile phones in the next two years and this provide them a huge opportunity to expand their operations here.
Nokia launched a new trio of cheap phones in these markets and claimed that these phones would help them achieve “strong double-digit growth” this year in Africa and the Middle East.
Timo Toikkanen, senior vice president for customer and market operations for the Middle East and Africa said in a statement: “We believe that of the next 1 billion users, 200 million will come from the Middle East and Africa, which makes it one of the fastest, if not the fastest growing region in the world.â€
They are already the market leaders in the African market and have opened six offices in the world’s poorest continent as it chases potentially lucrative untapped markets.
