Hyundai India to setup another second transmission plant
South Korean automaker Hyundai’s Indian unit has said that they would soon establish a second engine and transmission plant in Chennai. This unit is expected to be ready in the next two years and would help the company in their growth plans in the region.
This plant would require an investment of around $600 million and would provide employment to around 800 people.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd Managing Director and CEO HS Lheem said in a statement on their plans: “In view of our vision to make India an export hub for compact cars we will definitely need a new engine and transmission facility as our production in India increases.â€
They already are working on enhancing their production capacity to meet the growing demand in the market and are also said to be working on a small diesel car for the Indian market. Lheem added: “We already have space reserved for it (engine and transmission plant) near our current second assembly facility at Chennai.â€
He further said: “In the next three four months a final decision is expected as we have already had talks with the Andhra Pradesh government and have seen some locations at Hyderabad. We will hire 800 people for this facility, who will be involved in computer aided design (CAD) and CAD analysis.â€
