Apple Computers win trademark lawsuit against Beatles
Sanity seems to have finally prevailed as Apple Computers have won a trademark dispute with the Beatles over its iTunes music store.
This court’s decision would save the company some massive headaches, as they won’t now be required to strip its name and logo off the world’s leading music download service Apple iTunes.
The Beatles’ Apple Corps Ltd. had previously sued the iPod maker over the Apple’s Logo claiming that they had exclusive right to use the trademark on music under a 1991 agreement between the two companies.
The High Court ruled that the logo being used on the music store does not exactly mean that Apple is branding the songs originally owned by the music companies who are selling the songs through their online service.
Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said in a statement: “We are glad to put this disagreement behind us. We have always loved the Beatles, and hopefully we can now work together to get them on the iTunes Music Store.â€
Neil Aspinall, Apple Corps’s manager however believes that the Court had reached the wrong conclusion and they would be appealing against this ruling.
