Conroe and Merom named Core 2 Duo

World’s largest maker of microprocessors Intel has decided to christen their new generation processors for the laptop and desktop computers “Core 2 Duo”.

The aim is to make them sound more interesting for the end user. These processors were earlier codenamed as Conroe and Merom.

Intel is facing serious competition from their smaller rivals AMD and these new processors are very crucial to their success in the coming months.

Intel claims that these new processors with dual cores are better at handling several tasks at once. These new processors are also more power efficient compared to their older processors like Pentium 4.

Intel is also planning to launch a series of high performance “Core 2 Extreme” processors for the high-performance enthusiasts.
