Warner Bros. to use Bittorrent for selling movies and TV shows online
Warner Bros. has said in a statement that they would be using the power of p2p technology Bittorrent to distribute its films and TV shows over the Internet.
Bittorrent is popular more for the illegal usage as millions of users online use this p2p technology to share pirated content.
Warner however did not specify a date for the launch of such a service but it is expected to begin sometime this summer.
The company said that the technology would enable them to provide the digital content at high speed the day they launch the DVDs in the market.
They also have plans to sell permanent copies of films and TV shows online that can be burned to a backup DVD. However, they won’t play on regular DVD players and would require a computer.
Kevin Tsujihara, president of the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group said in a statement: “If we can convert 5, 10, 15 percent of the peer-to-peer users that have been obtaining our product from illegitimate sources to becoming legitimate buyers of our product that has the potential of a huge impact on our industry and our economics.â€
