Yamaha launches Yamaha Gladiator in India
Yamaha used to dominate the Indian motorcycle market few years back with their RX-100 model. However, changes in the government policies regarding the pollution norms led to the demise of that popular model.
The company tried to make a comeback but fuel efficient and reliable models from Hero Honda took the market by storm. They have been leading since then. Bajaj Auto is becoming a major player in this segment too and with other players like TVS doing well, Yamaha is in a bad shape in the Indian market.
Yamaha is again trying to establish itself as a major force in the Indian market and they have launched a new model named Yamaha Gladiator in the Indian market.
This model enters the already crowded 125cc space and will take on existing players in the market like the Bajaj Discover and Hero Honda Super Splendor.

The company is also working hard on a new brand marketing initiative with the bike. It is ramping up its capacity to four lakh units in 2006 and is hoping to garner a 15 per cent market share by the end of the decade. In addition, Yamaha is also considering launching scooters in the Indian market.

The Gladaitor has changed whatever turned the head….instead of 150cc its 125 cc and the looks oh my GOD what they have shown n what they r out with are just same NAME abd no other featurees match…really yami needs to keep what it is capable of ;-)
May 15th, 2006 at 11:08 am
the yamaha gladiator dosn’t meet the game anyway with its 125cc it needs to launch something bigger we cant wait much longer but will give yamaha a second chance to offer us a great bike . but the gladiator looks like a fat elder brother of fazer.
May 15th, 2006 at 11:43 am
i would like to say about gladiator of company launch 150/125 cc in makwheel segment it’s more attractive and this kind of bike every youngster will prefer.
May 15th, 2006 at 2:17 pm
I purchased yamaha on dated 14 May 2006. I think this one is my mom gifted to me on mothers day this bike is very special for me. Who said this is not a good bike the yamaha gladiatoe is most attractive bike and its pickup , average and every thing in this bike so attractive.
May 16th, 2006 at 6:44 am
This happen to me before, i had a new about getting a 150cc bike from yamaha…. and it was suppose to be a Gladiator, i am sorry to say this … but gladiator means a unbeaten warrior and it seems that gladiator has just lost the battle… even I had pics of it through Auto Expo….
and it was shown as a JA (john abraham) model… which didnt come out…
why yamaha..?
May 16th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
Hi Guys,
I have purchased bike on 14 May 2006. Its superb bike. Having a great pickup. Yet to find out the average. As petrol prices are reaching the big height, I think Yamaha has done good trick to launch 125 cc bike. But surely they should launch gladiator in 150 CC also. Cause it will be attraction to youths…

Yamaha is bluffing people by showing something in auto expo show and launching something else like Gladiator.
I think yamaha is only capable of building 125cc bikes, these guys dont know hw to build a 150cc or 180cc bikes which indian youth is expecting frm them……these guys have been struggling to launch a good 125cc bike which they are not able to ….they first came with YBX, YD125, fazer, gladiator and but next…… these guys dont hv guts to compete with bajaj, honda,or Tvs guys……etc…YAMAHA SUCKS…..good for nothing….!!
May 17th, 2006 at 4:53 am
Yamaha is definately a repectable name in the motorcycle world but in india they are simply not able to compete with our very own bike majors hero honda and bajaj. Gone are the days of RX 100 and RD 350. Now first they have to battle it out in the 125cc segment then only they can think of a big bike say 150cc or above. But yes still in 125cc segment Yamaha’s gear boxes and engine tranmisson by far better than most bikes. so yamaha “best of luck”.

we want some more from Yamaha :( but they launched this 125cc.
they should launch a fixed fairing 400cc
May 17th, 2006 at 4:51 pm
Gladiator is good for nothing. We youth expects a 150cc cutting edged bike from YAMAHA. Whats ur openion guys?CN we expect it in 150cc segment also?Wait and see..They r going to compete against bajaj, tvs and hero honda.
May 17th, 2006 at 5:25 pm
Hi
i have yamaha fazer it is my fist love if you are buy hamaya byke deffinetly u mad for speed
May 17th, 2006 at 9:35 pm
yamaha is reputed name in world biking but when it comes to indian market yamaha needs to improve a lot.
lots of changes in bike in a short span of time makes customer unhappy its seems as if some thing wrong in the bike we have purchased therefor the new changes.
i my self have yamaha frazer 125 cc bike its really a dream bike.
May 18th, 2006 at 10:47 am
yamaha is reputed name in world biking but what they r doing from past few years…
Gladiator is just like big bro of Frazer….
Nothing good, but the model shown in Auto expo was totally diff…
Yamaha should show some real competence to Pulser.. but Gladiator can only compete low end bikes….
May 18th, 2006 at 10:58 am
yamaha name sounds speed but its not done well in da power sector of da 4 strokes but quality of spares is good not like da degraded an cheap bajaj which has da looks but no reliability the future is open an yamaha already has bikes outside if ur a speed freak yamaha rules

Yamaha simply have to get it right this time around.
I hope and pray for their sake and for the young at heart in the country that the Gladiator will spearhead that effort.
A 5 speeder instead of a 4 speed gearbox as in the Shine clearly shows that they want to give the buyer an edge, something extra.
Only the dummy scoops on the tank look like … yes ! like a dummy. Come on Yamaha, who are you trying to fool? Let us have a good and proper basic shape that is attractive, without the stupid looking scoops.
Rest of the bike seems to be moving closer to the mark.
The tail lamp should be scaled down by about a 1/5. Why? Simply because when viewed in contrast with the tyre, it looks too big. The integration of the blinkers is a desirable thing though.
All the intentions are honorable and I for one certainly hope that Yamaha hits the big time once again with Gladiator.
In future they must react faster to public opinion. That way they will save valuable time.

It is really disappointing. I was waiting for long time and holding my patience only to think that YAMAHA will launch it’s Gladiator 150 and I would be able to have a grip on it. Inspite many of my frieds upgraded from their 100cc to P150 but I restrained from doing so only after looking at the pics of YAMAHA Gladiator. But what came out in the market is not even near to that cool style. When would YAMAHA realize that Indian buyers also have the buying capacity?
I would say guys forget about FAZER250 as well. A company which can’t even launch a 150 cc bike how can it even think of launching a 250cc?
I have no grudge towards YAMAHA but I am really heart broken.
May 22nd, 2006 at 7:13 pm
yamaha is a great company… no 46… valentino rossi drives a yamaha. the gladiator is a good bike, good competition for the 125cc class. however, i am fedup of waiting for some powerful bikes to come out. can all the bike manufacturers (not just yamaha) start producing some bigger bikes?! *sigh* that’s not going to happen… just gotta buy a car instead…
May 23rd, 2006 at 7:49 am
Good for nothing useless yamaha. We were waiting years for a good performance bike from yamaha and they have dished out a small 125cc in the name of Gladiator. Where has the 150 cc Gladiator which was shown in the autoexpo gone. What Yamaha has done is a very great crime. It is like showing the photo of the enticing elder sister to the bridegroom and his family so that the bridegroom gets to like the girl and then, at the time of the marriage ceremony, they have brought the ordinary looking younger sister for marrying off. This is plain cheating. I wish you good luck in all your cheating endeavours.

Hi……..
I always like Yamahe and the brand new Gladiator will get rid of other bike in 125 cc category. Yamaha lovers waiting for Gladiator 150.
May 24th, 2006 at 4:41 pm
well.. i just took a test ride this morning.. must say that manoevarability is a very obvious merit for this bike.. cos i was able to twist and turn comfortably in a heavy traffic condition.. but yea its inferior in the sense that its just a 125cc bike.. and the looks are pretty much similar to that of their other models like phasor and libero.. so its just another bike and nothing else.
May 24th, 2006 at 4:57 pm
Hi
I am big fan of the Dr.Valentino rossi the Yamaha Rider no 46 performance bike from yamaha and they have brought out a small 125cc in the name of Gladiator. Where is the 150 cc Gladiator which was shown in the autoexpo 2006 i am waiting to lonch in india
the YAMAHA Gladiator 150cc will get good responce in PUNE
May 26th, 2006 at 3:43 pm
hi yammis,
It is really diappointing to see the YBX turned fazer turned Gladiaotr without the bizare cosmetic makeover. Being a RX rider and Yamaha loyalist it is really frusturating to watch the Yamaha fails continuously to counter the threats of DTS-i or Apache or Unicorn. When Honda comeup with unicorn with 13+BHPs and 60+ r.mileage why not Yamaha? Hope the so called Research team would come up with some kind of 150CC Solution with 60+ mileage. Otherwise the 4% market share would remain same and I also will be restricted to the YBX i bought 6 years back.

i am a fan for yamaha.what they have released is not a good competitor to pulsar@splendor.youths are expecting only the 150cc.
May 26th, 2006 at 7:26 pm
Actually iam useing Yamaha RX-100 1993 MODEL this is the bike i really loved for heaven. My first ever dream bike was this.As far i have not seen any model that had a name like RX-100 in indian road. After that model i dont think no one even yamaha produce in such type with Maintance, spares,Mileage,Pickup,+outlook, price too.I think even pulser 180 can not manage the pickup of the bike even today,So i really say that not yamaha can beat the model RX-100.And not like that bike will yamaha lanuches. But lets look over 150 Gladiator. If u have some picture of 150Gladiator send by mail.
thank u.

May 28th, 2006 at 12:28 am
Y cudn’t Yamaha release the Gladiator 150cc b4 the 125 cc counterpart ??????
May 28th, 2006 at 7:44 am
fazer repainted as gladiator Yamaha think people are fool
May 29th, 2006 at 9:10 am
Hi,
Its a big disappointment that yamaha did something like this. Displayin 150cc and launching something lower than that. Its a big disappointment for yamaha fans. In the world of 150cc – 250cc segment they are launching 125cc bike. Well now i think its waste to expect 250cc Fazer from yamaha (the brazillian devil) coz they will launch somewhere 150cc fazer instead of 250cc. I think hero honda is better atleast they have Karizma. Why dont yamaha people do something to take over Karizma or 250cc pulsar (upcoming). We really have a big hope from you.
May 30th, 2006 at 4:22 pm
hi im very disappointed to see the new yamaha gladiator!wat happened to 150cc and fazer 250cc? i used to be a big fan of yamaha but not anymore? they r just selling old bikes with new name and if this continues im afraid yamaha will lose in the race with others? cant they see others? even companies like tvs and bajaj who used to make scooters and bikes not above 100cc,are now making 150 and 250cc bike wats wrong with yamaha? are they listening!!!!!!
June 1st, 2006 at 3:22 pm
the gladiater would be very fine if the manfacturer changes the sticker style and head light and modify good and neat. further they have to modify the height in the rear side.
June 7th, 2006 at 4:41 pm
The Yamaha Gladiator 150 cc which we saw in the Auto expo is Damn Good. But the Gladiator 125cc which is in the market doen’t have a catching look when compared to Gladiator 150cc. Does this Gladiator 150cc is a conceptual bike or they are going to release it soon?
June 13th, 2006 at 2:08 pm
I think the time for ‘YAMAHA’ to luanch 150-180cc good looking racer bikes … Not for 100-105-110-125cc bike this day are gone now….
June 15th, 2006 at 2:36 pm
hi huyyyyyyyz
i dont know abt the present yamaha segment but i know that the name yamaha in the past had a very good demand that beating of yamaha was excellent and that extreme pick up
made guys stand thier hair erect but now in vain
i suggest the company to release one of that kind with the max in C.C(300 cc)

Helooooooooooooo..
Frnds i just bought Gladiator..itz amazing.. It has got style.. hey dont worry about control, it reminds me of YBX..hope Yamaha will lonch Gladiator in 150cc also…this can increase their market space like RX100 and RX135 had done in the past… sound is like Yamaha typical.
June 21st, 2006 at 12:52 pm
Saw the pics of Yamaha Gladiator 150cc and Fazer 250 cc on the site and was completely bowled over by the looks, my
first bike was a Rx 100 which was really great and a powerful bike in that segment, but after that Yamaha has not come out with anything intresting.Presently own a Bajaj Pulsar and was planing to buy the Gladiator 150cc, but as always Yamaha
is way behind in the Bike market, they have fooled the Public by launching a sh** 125 cc bike, was really excited and epecting the Gladiator 150 cc.
Yamaha has always been late in launching their products and I think by the time they come out with the Gladiator 15o and Fazer 250 the other manufacturers would have come with some other exciting products.
Think tanks in Yamaha have to put their heads together and start thinking ahead of their competitors instead of being just copy cats.
Yamaha please note John Abraham is only a model and he alone cannot sell your bikes, come out with something Good
soon or perish because the Indian consumenrs now want value for their money.
