Research in Motion and China Mobile to launch Blackberry in China
Blackberry is finally coming to China as the developers Research in Motion are bringing this service to the country in collaboration with local partner China Mobile.
Blackberry service would be available through state-owned China Mobile starting May 17 and initially they would be targeting multinational companies with operations in China.
The handheld devices would be launched soon. RIM is initially launching this service all 31 provincial operators of China Mobile. They have a good deal in hand considering China Mobile is the largest mobile operator in China by subscribers.
Jim Balsillie, RIM’s chairman and co-CEO said in a statement on this deal: “Obviously, our first target is multinationals and the foreign business people there, where BlackBerry is really a global standard. And that’s going to keep up quite busy for awhile.â€
He added: “And then the next phase will really to be focusing more on a domiciled Chinese business market.â€
