MPAA to use sniffer dogs to detect pirated DVDs
The Motion Picture Association of America now has another ace up its sleeves. They now have trained sniffer dogs capable of detecting pirated DVDs!
The movie industry association funded the eight-month training of two black Labradors, called Lucky and Flo. And they are now capable of sniffing out pirated DVDs at customs points and other locations.
For this project, MPAA worked with its U.K. counterpart, the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT). Until now, dogs were mainly trained to sniff out drugs and other illegal substances. This would be the first case of its kind to train dogs to detect pirated digital content!
Eddy Leviten, head of communications for FACT said in a statement that the dogs are trained to sniff out smell of chemicals used in the manufacture of optical discs. However, this won’t exactly solve the problem as the DVDs can also contain legal content. For this, the officials would have to do some manual work.
