O2 wants to enter UK fixed-line market
UK based mobile service provider O2 has expressed their desire to enter the UK fixed-line market. The company wants to gain out of the growing potential from the converged services market, which provides facilities like mobile, landline and broadband in one combo package.
Spain’s Telefónica now owns O2 and O2 now control their business in Germany and of Cesky Telekom in the Czech Republic.
Peter Erksine, chief executive of the company said in a statement: “Convergence is something that customers will want, and we’ll be learning from our experiences in the Czech Republic and Germany and doing similarly in the rest of our businesses.â€
The company further said that they could either build their own fixed-line network or acquire an existing network by buying another company. They also have an option to buy capacity from an existing wholesale provider.
O2 is keeping their options open for the time being.
