General Motors to test sponsor on-demand Survivor telecast

General Motors Corp. has confirmed that they would be sponsoring a free on-demand viewing of the hit television series Survivor. This would be part of a test on behalf of the company to see if companies can advertise outside of a traditional TV broadcast.

Comcast are the brains behind this experiment and they are offering on-demand viewing of programs from CBS and NBC at 99 cents an episode, without commercials since quite sometime.

The automobile industry giants would be sponsoring two episodes of the reality survival contest, “Survivor Finale” and “Survivor Reunion” and this free broadcast would work in four markets until the end of August.

This experiment starts from May 15 and the shows would be available after a day of their broadcast on the television networks around the country. The broadcast would include three brief commercials of the GM branded cars.
