MTV launches URGE in collaboration with Microsoft

MTV Networks has been the face of the music on the television scene for decades now. And the company has seen players like Apple, Real and Sony becoming big players in the sales of songs on the internet.

They have now decided to enter this market and they have chosen Microsoft to become their partner in this initiative. The service is called URGE and it is being promoted heavily with the just launched Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 beta.

This service has been integrated in this new version of the popular digital media player from the software giant and would also probably ship with the upcoming Windows Vista operating system. The service would have on offer as many as 2 million songs and they would sell for prices similar to Apple iTunes digital music store at 99 cents a song and $9.95 for full albums.

Interestingly, the service would also enable the subscribers to get access to unlimited downloads at a monthly rate of $9.95. For $14.95, they would get the ability to transfer these songs on supported digital music players.

The service is also expected to soon launch streaming videos and video downloads on sale in the later stages of the year.
