Space shuttle Discovery being prepared for the upcoming mission
NASA is working hard on the upcoming Space Shuttle mission. Nine months after the last mission, which had its share of problems, the space agency hauled the Space Shuttle Discovery out of its hangar on Friday.
It is being taken to the Kennedy Space Center’s assembly building for final preparations. After this, Discovery would be transferred to the launch pad.
NASA is aiming to launch the Discovery in the month of July and resume the work on its International Space Station.
American Space program was massively hit after the Columbia accident, which resulted in the death of all the astronauts on board. NASA has been fairly cautious after that incident and has learnt a lot from the last Discovery mission which also highlighted the problems with the Shuttle’s aging body.
Space Shuttle vehicle manager Stephanie Stilson said in a statement on the progress of the mission: “I’m ecstatic. This is what the team looks forward to.” They are aiming to bring Discovery on the launch pad later this week.
