Sony VAIO AR Premium model to feature Blu-Ray drive
Consumer electronic giants Sony Corp. is due to showcase the first notebook computer to feature the next generation Blu-Ray disk drive. This model VAIO AR Premium model would be capable of playing, editing and recording next-generation, high-definition videos in the Blu-ray DVD format.
Sony said in a statement that this model would be available this summer for $3,500. Along with the high-end Blu-Ray drive, it would feature a 17-inch display, an integrated TV tuner, and Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Media Center Edition operating system.
Toshiba, the makers of the competing HD DVD format have already displayed their first range of notebook computers to come with HD DVD drives. However, the displayed models featured just the read only drives.
Sony’s Vaio laptop would just be one of the many products featuring the Blu-Ray drive from the company this year. They are already working on a global launch of the Sony Playstation 3 gaming console, which is due to arrive in November this year.
