Sony launches Vaio UX Micro PC

Sony is planning to launch a paperback- sized computer that uses flash memory instead of a hard drive. This would be targeted towards similar devices made by South Korean tech giants Samsung.

One of the first products in this range would come out in the month of June. This would be similar to the Vaio type U model introduced by Sony recently and is going on sale later this month.

Samsung has been developing such products to target consumers who want something between a mobile and a notebook computer to surf the Internet, check mails and perform other tasks. Using flash memory on such devices brings more reliability and portability to such devices.

Yoshihisa Ishida, head of Sony’s Vaio PC business said in a statement on these new developments: “There is an increasing number of people who are using smart phones and mobile phones, but the functions are limited. We want to provide something that can fulfill those needs.”

Microsoft has also noticed needs for these devices and recently showcased the Origami technology. Samsung has been one of the early users of this technology as they launched the Q1 device based on the Origami architecture.
