Volvo coming to India
Swedish carmaker Volvo Car Corp is planning to setup their operations in the Indian market. They would be targeting the luxury car consumers and are going to launch vehicles in the price segment ranging from Rs 25 lakh to nearly Rs 1 crore.
Volvo is now owned by America’s Ford Motor Co and they would be bringing their vehicles to India through fully built import route.
A company source was quoted as saying in the media: “Volvo already has a small presence in India, and sells only to diplomatic missions and embassies. In view of the rapid growth in the Indian car market - particularly for premium cars - it has decided to set up shop in the country and tap the huge potential in the market.â€
Volvo might bring in popular models like the S40 sedan, XC90 SUV and the C70 convertible in the Indian market. They can be available as soon as sometime next year. However, they would have some formidable competition to face in this price segment in the Indian market.
