Chevrolet Spark (Daewoo Matiz II) coming next year
According to news sources, General Motors India would be launching the much-awaited next version of the Daewoo Matiz car sometime early next year. The car would now be called Chevrolet Spark and the company aims to capitalize on the Chevy brand.
Spark is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2007. It has already been delayed massively and GM now would hope to make it this time considering they need a small car for the volumes in the Indian market.
GM would be manufacturing the car initially at their Halol plant in Gujarat. They are working on increasing the capacity of this plant to churn out 85,000 units per annum. This should be done by the time Spark comes out in the market next year.
GM is also looking for a new location to build its new plant and is looking for a suitable site in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
The company is also reportedly working on a diesel variant of their recently launched Chevrolet Aveo sedan model in addition to the hatchback model to be called U-VA.
