Micron Technology to launch an 8-Megapixel Image Chip
Microprocessor maker Micron Technology has announced that they are soon going to showcase a thumbnail-sized digital sensor, which would enable mobiles and small cameras to capture bursts of 10 high-quality photos in a single second.
It would also enable these small devices to capture high definition video content. The large-scale production of this chip is expected to begin sometime early next year at Micron’s fabrication plants in Idaho and Italy.
Products powered by this chip are expected to be out in the market by late next year and would enhance the capabilities of mobile phones and compact digital cameras. Micron Technology however did not reveal the interested companies in this new chip developed by them.
Suresh Venkatrama, Micron’s director of the digital camera segment said in a statement: “We’re saying it can go in a point-and-shoot camera selling in the $200 to $300 range. It brings high-quality digital video and photography down to the consumer space.”
