KDDI and Sony to launch Walkman branded mobile phones
The Japanese mobile market is seeing more partnerships being formed as the market is opening up to a new government regulation which would make it easier for consumers to change service providers which losing their mobile phone numbers.
The latest partnership has been formed between KDDI and Sony, as the two companies would launch a Walkman brand cell phone enabling users to download music onto their handsets.
This new product would be Japan’s first Walkman brand cell phone, and would come with enough storage space to store around 500 songs. This model would enable the users to play music continuously three times as long as current KDDI models.
In fact, if the phone is used as just a music player, the handset could operate for about 30 hours on a single charge. Consumers would be able to download songs via the Internet or record off other media such as CDs via personal computer.
Sony and KDDI would be marketing these products under both KDDI’s au and Sony’s Walkman brands.
