Mitsubishi faces investigation from US Department of Justice

US Department of Justice is looking into price fixing issue in the computer memory market and they have contacted Japanese tech major Mitsubishi in this case.

The US DOJ has contacted the US-unit Mitsubishi Electric and Electronics USA looking for documents relating to Mitsubishi’s DRAM (dynamic RAM) business in the US between 1998 and 2002.

Not many details are available but the incoming reports state that DOJ investigation has uncovered evidence of price fixing between major memory makers. This is related to dealings with major pc manufacturers in the region including Dell, Apple, HP and IBM.

We have already seen a couple of companies charged with similar allegations in the past. In October 2004, Germany’s Infineon Technologies pleaded guilty. May 2005 saw Korean manufacturer Hynix Semiconductor admitting the similar charges. Samsung Semiconductor and its Korean parent Samsung Electronics have also been fined in relation to price fixing.
