Verizon to market Motorola Q mobile device
World’s second largest mobile phone maker Motorola has said that Verizon Wireless will start selling its Q handset on May 31. This would be Motorola’s first major attempt to take on the popular RIM Blackberry device in the US market.
Motorola Q is powered by Microsoft Mobile Platform and would directly take on Blackberry, which is hugely popular amongst the corporate users in this market. It comes with a mini keyboard to make it easier for users to write messages for email and storage.
The company is betting big on this phone and expects it to be a huge success. Motorola also has plans to launch a series of new products based on this platform.
Motorola’s chief executive, Ed Zander said in a statement on this product: “We think this is a genre for a new platform.†However, he did not reveal many details on their plans. The company is still riding on the Razr range of mobile phones, which have simply rocked the American market.
Verizon Wireless has itself said in a statement that they would be selling Motorola Q for $199.99 after a $100 credit if the customer signs up for a two-year service contract.
