Seagate to lay off 6000 workers at Maxtor
Leaders in storage solutions market Seagate has announced that they would be laying off as many as 6000 workers at its recently acquired Maxtor division.
This would mean that half of the entire workforce at Maxtor would lose their jobs. Most of these job cuts would happen in the USA and the worst hit unit would be the Silicon Valley based division of the company.
They would however be keeping the Maxtor’s China based manufacturing unit. This would save around 6,000 people who work for Maxtor in Asia. This latest announcement would leave Seagate with a combined workforce of around 55,000.
Market analysts believe that such a move is important for the company to make sure that the acquisition is profitable for them. Cost cutting has become a trend for tech companies to stay competitive and ahead of the competition.
