Dell’s India unit to be operational by year-end
World’s largest maker of personal computers Dell has said in a statement that they expect their upcoming Indian unit to be operational by the end of the year.
The company aims to expand its presence in the Indian market to snatch away a larger part of this growing PC market. And manufacturing locally would give them a price advantage.
Paul-Henri Ferrand, Dell’s vice president for South Asia said in a statement: “We would like to have this manufacturing facility up and running within this year. Local manufacturing will enable us to have the same supply and delivery chains as we have in many other markets.”
However, not many details were revealed. The company has a 5 percent market share in India.
The Indian unit would make India the seventh location where Dell has a plant. It already has manufacturing bases in China and Malaysia in the Asian market. They face competition from Lenovo, Hewlett Packard and local brands here in India.
