India set to become global mobile export hub

There is no doubt that India is one of the major markets for mobile phones in the world today. The number of mobile customers is expanding fast here and global mobile manufacturers are establishing their mobile phone units here in India.

This means that India is now set to become a handset manufacturing and export hub with Nokia, LG ready to manufacture millions of units of phones in India.

India already has an established software development market which would help them develop software solutions for new mobile phone products and provides an alternate market for manufacturing besides China.

Nokia and Motorola are investing millions in their bases in India and they should start producing bulk number of phones soon. They would fulfill the demand from both the Indian and international markets.

Jukka Lehtela, Nokia’s director for Indian operations said in a statement: “The growing markets are here — India, the Middle East and Africa. India is in the middle of these geographically and for us the transportation from India was easier and cheaper than from China or Europe.”

The company plans to export 30 percent to 40 percent of its annual Indian production.
