Virgin Mobile offering ad-sponsored calling on mobile phones

Virgin Mobile USA is trying to offer a new innovative service to their cell-phone service used mostly by teenagers and youth customers. They are offering free calling minutes if the consumer is ready to watch and respond to ads on their mobile phones.

Newer generation phones are more capable and come powered with net connectivity and web applications. Mobile service providers try to enhance their revenue model by offering these value added services for a price.

The new offer from Virgin Mobile can help consumers get up to 75 minutes of free calls per month if they spend an equal amount of time looking at ads and replying to these ads via text messages. Virgin Mobile is the first mobile company to offer a service of this kind and might start a new trend in the mobile market.

Howard Handler, the company’s chief marketing officer said in a statement on this new initiative: “Very practically speaking a lot of our customers are value conscious. They manage budgets that are finite. It will contribute meaningful additional top line revenue and EBITDA.”
