Troy Clarke is new GM North America president
The month of May brought no good news for the world’s largest maker of automobiles. The sales were down yet again as both Honda and Toyota recorded positive growth in the US market.
The company has now announced that they are appointing Troy Clarke to head its struggling North American division.
Troy would be taking over from Chief Executive Rick Wagoner who has been leading the unit for the past year.
Tom is currently the president of GM Asia Pacific and he would be returning to the GM headquarter after a two-year stint in GM’s fastest-growing market.
He would be heading the company at a crucial time, as the company would be facing contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers union next year. That deal can make or break the company.
Troy’s appointment comes into effect from July 1. GM Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said in a statement on this new appointment: “While much work remains to be done, we have reached several significant milestones in our turnaround plan over the past year. This is the right time to turn the region’s day-to-day operations over to Troy, who has the experience and skills to help lead the (North American) team as it continues this unprecedented restructuring.”
