Disney collaborates with CinemaNow to sell movies online
Disney is expected to announce a deal with CinemaNow, which would see CinemaNow sell their movies on the net for downloading. However, these movies would be usable on regular DVD players limiting the flexibility consumer enjoy.
As per incoming reports, CinemaNow will sell the films for $19.95 and in June will allow consumers to transfer films to a portable device running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Media software.
Walt Disney has already announced that they would sell its films online the same day they become available on DVD. This further reduces the gap between the availability of DVDs in the market and on the internet.
Not many Hollywood studios are allowing downloadable films to be transferred to DVDs for play on home entertainment players. They are afraid that it would lead to piracy of the movies.
CinemaNow on their part have said that they are talking with other movie studios for a similar deal to sell movies on the internet.
