Ask.com adds a blog search engine, updates Bloglines service
Ask.com has announced the launch of a Blog search engine on their website. With this, they become the latest player in this market, which already includes some popular names like Technorati, Google Blog Search, Icerocket and others.
The company said that they analyzed the subscriptions of the hundreds of thousands of users of its Bloglines service to launch this blog searching service. Ask.com had acquired this online RSS aggregation service in February 2005.
Ask.com claims that their blog search engine indexes more than 1.5 billion posts and 2.5 million content feeds. It also includes a sub-index of news articles from about 7000 sites. They are claiming that by using Bloglines subscription data to populate its index it would help them provide better and more relevant search results for their users.
Users would be able to search for actual posts, feeds, or news, and sort the results by relevance, date or popularity. The service would also enable them to subscribe to a particular blog not only through Bloglines service but also through also other alternative options.
Ask.com users would also be able to subscribe to search results keeping them up-to-date with the latest blog posts on a particular topic.
