Central Trust of China mandates all PC to be Linux friendly

The government-run Central Trust of China has mandated that all the personal computers purchased from now on have to be Linux friendly. This is just one of the several steps taken by the Chinese government to promote open source applications in the country.

Mike Lin a consultant at the Taipei Computer Association spoke about this new interesting development: “It is a global trend that Linux is gaining wider adoption due to its lower costs and better adaptability.”

Lin added: “In the past, some of the procured computers did not support Linux; therefore this new mandate signifies the government’s push to reduce reliance on the Windows operating system.”

Central Trust of China runs operations related to banking, insurance, trade and warehousing and handles purchasing computers and other equipment for government agencies and schools.

They have now commissioned TCA to run compatibility tests on desktop PCs manufactured by bidding vendors to ensure their products are able to operate on the Linux system.
