Maruti might make Nissan cars in India

Indian automotive giant might soon manufacture Nissan cars for the Indian market. This deal was part of an agreement between Suzuki and Nissan. Suzuki holds a majority share in Maruti, which is the dominating player in the Indian market.

This deal could well be the first step in India becoming a production hub for small cars for the multinational companies around the world. GM and Hyundai are also working on their plans to make India an export base for their cars.

Nissan said in a statement on this development: “Nissan and Suzuki will start a manufacturing collaboration in new emerging markets by sharing their respective manufacturing facilities. This activity will start at Suzuki’s plant in India.”

Nissan currently has on offer the X-Trail in India. It is a premium SUV that is sold from Nissan’s four outlets in the country. The deal with Maruti Suzuki would give them a huge dealer base and a partnership with the largest automaker in the Indian market. However, the deal signed between Nissan and Suzuki does not clarify many things which Maruti would be very interested in knowing.
