Toshiba displays a 2.5-inch, double-platter hard drive

Tech giants Toshiba has released a 2.5-inch, double-platter hard drive which they claim comes with the highest density yet available on any such product in the market.

This new disk uses the new perpendicular technology for storing data and comes with capacities to hold 277.1 megabits per square millimeter. This translates to an awesome 178.8 gigabits per square inch.

This drive breaks the record held by Toshiba itself of storing 133 gigabits of data per square inch.

The disks using this high capacity storage technology would hold 200GB and Toshiba plans to start bulk production of these by August this year.

Toshiba might use these drives to power their digital music and video players. These devices can become credible competitor to the market leader Apple with their iPod range of devices.
