Toyota Corolla overtakes Vitz to become top seller in Japan
Toyota continues to dominate local rivals in the Japanese market as their popular Corolla model has overtaken their own Vitz model to become the current best seller in the Japanese market.
However, the sales were still down as Toyota sold 8.3 percent less units compared to last year. Japan Automobile Dealers Association reports said that the company sold 9,811 units of Toyota Corolla last month.
Vitz sold 8,220 units, which are down 24 percent from the same month in 2005. Honda itself suffered lower sales of their Fit compact car, which sold around 7,138 units in the market. It was the third most popular model in the Japanese market.
Toyota cars have been the top selling cars in all the months this year and had as many as seven models in the top 10 selling list for the month of May. Nissan had two.
