Carphone Warehouse gains 340,000 broadband customers
Carphone Warehouse is the European market’s largest mobile phone retailer and they have now signed on 340,000 customers for its free broadband offering.
This is much more than what the company had expected and helped it post underlying pre-tax profits up by 35.5 per cent to £136.1 million.
The company started a price war of sort when they announced free broadband to customers who sign up to its fixed-line telephone service two months ago. This service has met with impressive success as these numbers have shown.
Roger Taylor, finance director of the company said in a statement: “We have double everything such as the number of call centre agents, in response to demand. We always said there would be a queue of about 8 – 10 weeks between when a customer was signed up to when they went live with the service. We have managed to keep to that and it seems that people who know they are getting a free product and know that it takes a bit of time to get the service are willing to sit in a queue.”
