Microsoft collaborates with Juniper Networks for IPTV Security
Software giants Microsoft have collaborated with Jupiter Networks, which would see the latter provide firewall and intrusion-detection services for Microsoft TV IPTV Edition customers.
Microsoft TV IPTV Edition is essentially an end-to-end platform, which allows the telecom companies and TV distribution providers to provide Internet broadcast services.
Jim Brady, a spokesperson for Microsoft TV said in a statement on their service: “Currently, we are focusing on marketing Microsoft TV IPTV to telcos, as they are only now getting into TV broadcasting over their networks.â€
He added: “Prior to the Web, home computers were standalone devices that were used solely for word processing or other tasks. Now, with the Internet, PCs are connected up to a global network. Currently, TV is largely a one-way service, but with IPTV, it will become bidirectional.”
Jerry Passione of Juniper Networks added: “We are protecting the upstream connections traffic that is handled by the Microsoft video-on-demand server and the Microsoft TV distribution server. Our technology could, however, be used to provide security for all the other parts of the network against attacks such as Trojans, viruses, and spyware.”
