K-PEX: Kingston Technology showcase their own digital music player

Apple is the current market leaders in the digital music player market. However, we still see a lot of new players aiming to snatch away a share of this lucrative pie. The latest company to enter this segment is the memory maker Kingston Technology which is showing their music player named K-PEX at the ongoing Computex trade show being held in Taipei.

Kingston is planning to launch a pocket-size player in August this year in Asia. This would be further expanded to the US market in the coming months. This Kingston player would feature a 2-inch color screen and would play a number of different audio and video formats including AVI, MPEG 1, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, Windows Media Video, ASF, MP3, Windows Media Audio, OGG, and WAV.

Users would also be able to read text files and view JPEG format photos. It would support the Microsoft’s digital rights management (DRM) system which would enable the users to play legally purchased music from supported online services. However, like all non-iPod players, it will not play the music purchased from Apple iTunes service.

Kingston K-PEX would come in 1GB and 2GB versions and should be priced competitively.
